| || Books, the loneliness of the long distance runner|
Novelist: Allan Sillitoe
Smith, 17, a working class rebel is sent to prison after robbing a bakery. He is an excellent runner and the prison Governor asks him to win the national cross-country championship, so as to advertise the success of the prison's methods. On race day, Smith deliberately loses so that he deprives the Governor of his moment of triumph. Folloving his release we learn that Smith has returning to crime and went in jail again.
Films, Run Lola, Run
Lola, a stunning Redhead punk runs through the City streets over a breathless 20 minutes as she frantically searches for a way to find DM 100,000 (about US$ 50,000) to save her boyfriend's life. Manny, her boyfriend, screwed everything up, leaving DM 100,000 Cash on a seat in the subway because he was scared by a policeman. Now, his Boss wants to kill him. Then follows three delirious tellings of what Lola's frenzied mind conjures as ideas to get the money. The film spins this tale in real-time three times over, with slight plot alterations resulting in drastically different conclusions each time.
There is something about a running person, some kind of wild energy.
This is a fast, kinetic movie, so forget that late afternoon jog and instead run to your local video store and go watch "Run Lola Run".
| Singer: Marianne Faithfull |
Marathon Kiss: "I cherished the night of your marathon kiss
Chemicals flying, oh I love this
What's it all for if you can't feel the ectasy?
What's it all for if you can't touch the power,
The will to live in the hour?"
Marianne first hit the headlines in 1964 when, as 17 year old straight out of school, she was introduced to the Rolling Stones' manager Andrew Loog Oldham at a London Party. Then she felt in love with Mick Jagger, the sexiest man on the Planet in the late sixties.
